Chelsea House works with teaching centres of all kinds with the main aim of improving student’s oral skills in their chosen language.
With children of pre-school age we use games, sensory stimulation and centres of interest appropriate to the different age groups to present and practise the language in a natural way, with both traditional and multi-media material.
Speaking, listening, reading and writing skills are introduced with levels of difficulty carefully graded to match the age and natural abilities of the children. We use drama techniques, games, stories, and school festivities as opportunities for natural language practice to integrate grammar and vocabulary in a whole experience. The use of a very wide variety of different types of material guarantees that there will be different ways into the learning process for children of different interests.
At Primary School we begin presenting pupils to official language exams.
Secondary School (“Secundària i Batxillerat”)
At these levels we continue work on the four basic skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing, with special emphasis on oral fluency to ensure that pupils are able to hold conversations with native speakers on a variety of topics which include sport, cultural events, and contemporary topics of different kinds (ecology, etc).
The material used in the classroom is chosen to guarantee coverage of a variety of topics.
Pupils take official language exams if they wish.
We offer customized language classes for adults to suit their specific language needs: business English, leisure activities, university studies, exam preparation for Cambridge or Trinity College exams, etc.
Chelsea House works with schools to organize English Summer Schools which combine language work with other activities such as games and outings to places of interest.
Summer Courses in Ireland
We organize summer courses in Ireland to give pupils the opportunity to learn new language and to practise existing language in real situations. Pupils live with native-speaking families. They take part in a wide variety of sporting and leisure activities, under the supervision of experienced graduate teachers.
These courses are intended for pupils aged 11 to 18. There are also courses for adults who wish to learn English or improve their English.
We provide translators, interpreters and helpers for school events of different kinds, such as Parents’ Day (“portes obertes”) and dealing with exchange groups of pupils.
